SYNOPSIS
Walter Mann, an actor, is about to fulfill the dream of his life: to star in his own play. Bordering on that moment something unexpected will blow up all he has or is about to achieve. Flow tells us the story of a man who suffers an interior fight where darkness and light are the rivals, a trip where, finally, one of both sides will prevail. Flow describes the bitterness in human beings and the thorny and delicate subject of forgiveness and reconciliation with oneself and with life. This film also tells us about family relationships, art, spirituality, loneliness, the relation and parallelism between art and life, art and spirituality… in other words Flow is a deep trip to the depths of the human being.

THE PROCESS
After two weeks of rehearsals on improvisations, all the stage footage was shot during two days at The Lara Theater, in Madrid. After editing this footage, the story was rewritten throughout three months to become a 90min. feature film script. Seven more days were needed to complete the shooting on location in Madrid, Guadalajara, and in the Pirenees, in Huesca. The result is an intimate film that explains the building and development of a man and his character and the later collapse of such structure, about the fight to keep his calling or vocation alive and how this may help him to cling to life. It also talks about conflicts in family relationships, the education we received and the way we educate others, lack of communication, about loosing our identity, and how we can recover ourselves through memory, spirituality, theater, about the gist of The Actor, nature, and faith in oneself and in life. Flow is a story for adults and also for those who have not forgotten the child that dwells within them. A film made with the heart and guts.THE PROJECT: MATERIAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES
Flow is a small film shot in nine days. The crew was also small: nine people. Just one actor performing with the support of a young actress in a small but in an important role. Produced without any kind of government grants it has been made with the personal investment of the producers. The main photography was done on a budget of 30.000 Euros and the post-production was afforded with the same amount, without factoring the in future costs of distribution and movement in Film Festivals.ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE RESOURCES
Even when we were aware about our limitations and restrictions in the technical and creative subjects we never thought of giving up in our aim and desire to tell this story. We have tried to use as best as we can all the narrative means we had to enrich the story and give the necessary information to the audience so they can understand clearly the central message of the character, his environment and his conflicts. We also were aware about the risk of making a film just with one character, a risk for both the actor and the director. The main character is on screen 95% of the shots of the film. During the process of the misfortunes and his pilgrimage he is “visited” by the four characters he is rehearsing for the play he is about to star in, right before its premier which enriches the conflicts he is involved in, in real life. Flow is a feature film directed by David Martínez and performed by Juan Del Santo.AWARDS
